Girl, so you gonna try to "rescue the princess from herself", now? ...I know you pride yourself on your mature and "objective" mindset, problem-solving skills, high intelect, and endurance, but... what the heck is up with this need to "prove yourself" by taking up this ridiculous "challenge"??? (Why the heck are you listening to your hero complex...???) I would say, if you have a hero complex and wanna prove yourself, then focus on saving your own sister "from herself", instead... (as I don't see her as half as nasty as the princess, and we KNOW that while the princess will probably be "ok", the red head sister's sort of more "in danger"). But I know that you'll probably end up having to "help" the princess, before you can help your sis...)

ITBIY Level: 6
She keeps mouthing off about her being sent to humiliate her and I really wish MC's personality was consistent enough that she would just tell her if anyone is trying to humiliate her it's her bitch of step-mother cause she had every chance to send her own spawn and leave her out of it but sent her anyway because she didn't want her daughter to be associated with her. She mouths off to EVERYONE else that annoys her but not the princess?? It would also kill several birds with one stone, her step-monster would lose face because she CHOSE to send an illegitimate child instead of her actual daughter, her daughter would probably be banned from the ever interacting with the princess and that's just deserved for her behavior and MC might be seen in a better light because they both have shit mom's and no choice in the way their lives are going.

ITBIY I thought a bit about this option and came to the conclusion that maybe the reason she doesn't go for this is because of how it would reflect badly on her father too (and not just on her stepmother and half-sister), by making her father look like a pushover, which will not turn out well in the mc's favor, in the end, because from the empress' reaction it's become even more obvious that it's *precisely* a consideration to her father's powerful standing and reputation, and to whatever "love" he might have for his illegitimate daugher, enough to care if she gets mistreated) that is protecting the mc right now, while she stays inside the palace (as in, dissuading more people, like the empress, from turning a blind eye to the mc getting mistreated, or perhaps even dissuading them from starting their own sh*t with her). . I mean, the mc probably knows that, in the end, the only reason the empress chose to "defend" the mc (even over the princess, her own daughter) is because she (the empress) still needs the support of the mc's powerful father for her son's, prince Aurel's future claim to the throne. This means the empress will no longer have a reason to maintain that "consideration" for the mc's wellbeing, if she suspects the mc's father no longer cares what happens to the mc, after hearing the mc has done something to ruin her "good relationship" with him (blaming her stepmom, in the way you say, would be seen as ruining her relationship with her father, too, because she had been giving away her whole family's "inner weaknesses" and "private problems" for the whole world to see, thus returning ungratefulness to her father inspite of how he "so kindly" took in... yadda yadda).
